Transglobal Time Machine

[ Manvel ]

After weeks of sitting behind a computer building Websites-for-Dollars, I took a day off. I threw my camera in the car and took off towards Galveston and the Gulf Coast—planning to make a 120-mile loop, by auto, that I used to regularly ride by bike.

It was a bit of trip through time for me: beginning in the city I most often visited as a child (my paternal relatives hail from Galveston), and ending in the coastal crossroads where I learned the most about mischief-making as a newly licensed teenager with my first automobile. That’d be Surfside Village.

Along the way I made an unplanned stop at Galveston’s historic cemetery, looking for my Grandfather’s grave (no luck), and then visiting what used to be my uncle’s monument shop (as in gravestones). Turns out my cousin still runs the latter, and we made plans to catch up after what has been close to two decades.

Nothing special, but anything was better than another thirteen-hour day in front of my computer, or a single second in front of the television watching the embarrassment that is American “democracy.” Especially not on this day.

Anyhoot…the trip was poorly planned for getting good pics (middle of the day, harsh light), but I went through the exercise nonetheless. Enjoy.
